Dear App Engine users:也就是说支持2.6的难度还是比较大的,目前还是优先扩展特性和性能,但会在有空时争取支持2.6。
Recently, there’s been a lot of discussion about the lack of support for Python 2.6 in App Engine. We wanted
to take a minute to address the concerns and give you an update on our position on Python development in
App Engine:
The App Engine team completely supports both the Python and Java runtimes. Full stop. We’ve worked
incredibly hard to try and release new features for both SDKs at the same time. We believe both are extremely
valuable and we have no intention of dropping support for either.
The issue of support for Python 2.6 however, is more complex. When looking at the distribution of Python
version numbers for developers on App Engine, 2.5 is still the most popular version, even in App Engine’s
bleeding edge developer community. We see this trend being true for many other companies and projects as
well. Additionally, migrating to 2.6 isn’t an easy transition for any organization to make, let alone the entire
App Engine community.
Because of these reasons, we’ve chosen to prioritize expanding the features and capabilities of the App Engine
platform above the work required to support 2.6 for now. But rest assured, we continue to reevaluate this
decision as we plan out App Engine’s roadmap and we do expect that support for 2.6 is somewhere in our
future.
Keep the feedback coming!

我觉得支持2.6还是很有必要的,不但提高了性能,而且提供了新的语法特性和库,语法也向下兼容。至于3.x,之前也提到过还未准备支持,因为差异太大。
